CoolTouch Laser Frequently Asked Questions
How does the CoolTouch laser work?
The CoolTouch CoolBreeze Varia laser produces 1064nm laser light energy that penetrates the nail and the surrounding skin and vaporizes the fungus and bacteria that reside in the bed of the nail.
Is there any pain associated with the procedure?
No.
How long will the treatment take?
The treatment will take 15-30 minutes depending on the number of toes. Three treatments per nail are recommended at least six weeks apart for best results.
How soon will I notice results?
A toenail takes, on average, 6-8 months to grow out. New nail growth will be noticed at the base, near the cuticle, over the next few months. Although the laser can kill the fungus on your first visit, the diseased nail still will need to grow out.
Does it work?
Studies show an 80-88% success rate.
Why is this better than other treatments?
This is better than the creams which are 40% effective and require you to rub the cream into the nail twice a day for at least one year. Or the oral tablets, with only a 60-70% effective rate and requires a blood test prior to the prescription due to the potential risk of liver damage.
Is there a recovery period?
No, just walk in and walk out!
When can I paint my nails?
You can polish immediately after the treatment.
Is the procedure covered by insurance?
The laser is considered cosmetic and therefore is not a covered insurance procedure.
How can I pay for the procedure?
We accept cash, Visa, Master Card, Discover and checks. You may also use your Medical IRA, Health Savings or Flexible Spending Account.
How much will it cost?
Depending on how many nails are infected, the payments will vary. Costs start at $300.
Is it safe?
Yes. In clinical studies there have been no adverse reactions, disabilities or known side effects.
What do I need to do before I come in for the procedure?
Remove any polish, nail art or oils the day before.
The Varia laser is FDA cleared for podiatry use.
